A grand mistake
The grand mistake
“I knew he was cheating on me! I could smell that Chanel perfume and I thought I saw lipstick on his shirt. I don’t have that shade. Maybe I did but I don't remember kissing him. I was so drunk last night I don’t remember anything. I need enough proof before I confront him. I mean he is my boyfriend after all.” Crystal hung up the phone as her boyfriend walked in. She asked him “Where have you been so long I have been waiting for you. Was it a work emergency or were you meeting someone ?” Brice replied uncertainly; why Crystal was interrogating him? “No I was out for a drink with the boys, why are you asking me questions? I told you what I was doing.” Crystal replied “I don't know, I am just having a feeling that you're hiding stuff and for this to work we should not hide stuff from each other. Please know this.” The next day, Brice had gone for work leaving Crystal alone with her unsettling thoughts. ‘What if he is cheating on me with someone from work? Can I really trust him? Am I trying to save something that is already broken?’ she was deep in her thoughts when she got a call from her friend. Her friend had asked for some money and Crystal was fed up with this bad habit. So Crystal had an idea; she asked a friend to go to Brice’s work and flirt with him to see if he would fall for the trick and maybe cheat on her. She knew this was wrong but she just had to know you couldn't trust her boyfriend and his word. When her friend agreed Crystal was pleased and decided to find more evidence. She went to Brice’s room and started snooping around. She looked through his clothes, checked his drawers, checked under the mattress for any clues but found a dead end everywhere. Finally, Crystal found a little notebook with a picture of a diamond-encrusted ring. Crystal was confused and was wondering if the ring was for her, the side fling or just a simple drawing. As she flipped through the pages of the book, she realized how wrong she was and how badly she had behaved with her boyfriend. She felt terrible that she wanted to test the loyalty of her boyfriend and even went through her things. She kept flipping through the book and started bawling when she noticed that all the secretive phone calls, the private meetings, the drugged drinks were for him to work on the proposal! Crystal sat on the floor crying wishing she had never doubted her boyfriend. After about ten minutes, she got a call from her friend saying that her boyfriend had slapped her for coming on to him and that she needed the money. Crystal felt even more horrible knowing that she had paid someone to flirt with her loyal boyfriend. She transferred the money and began to cry again. When Brice came home he noticed Crystal crying. He came up to her and comforted her and asked why she was upset. Crystal admitted what she had done and Brice felt furious but didn’t say anything. Instead, he comforted her and told her that if they didn’t have trust they didn’t have anything. After that Brice proposed to Crystal and Crystal promised she would never doubt him again.
